Offline Internet Marketing Checklist for Small Business
It is easy for businesses to get caught up in internet marketing to the point that they forget about the human element. Everyday you drive down the road, you see billboards, bumper stickers and business signage of some kind. This is "Offline" marketing or traditional marketing. If you own a business, you should be heavily involved in self promotion or self marketing. Marketing is nothing more than getting your name, brand and services recognized by the general public. We, at Bizz Promotions have put together a few "offline" marketing ideas for our customer's. You may not be able to incorporate all of these ideas into your marketing scheme, but there may be some ideas that you have yet to think of. Whether you are marketing online or offline, you should be marketing all the time. We also have an "Online Marketing" section that provides solid offline marketing information and advice as well.
Offline Marketing
  • Business Cards, Stationary & Invoices
One question: Is your website address and e-mail address on everything associated with your business? You should ensure that your website address and e-mail address is correct on business cards, letter head, stationary, invoices and anything else that you hand out to your local customer's on a daily basis.
  • E-mail Signatures
What does your e-mail signature look like? When you reply to someone's e-mail or generate an e-mail to someone you should have the following: Your Name, Your Company Name, Your Phone/Fax/Toll Free Number, Your Website Address and Your E-mail Address included in the signature block of the e-mail. If you do not have your signature configured like this, you should by now.
  • Flyers
Have you ever gotten home from the office, checked your mailbox and you have a flyer or brochure attached? I must admit, that I usually take it off the mailbox, glance at it and toss it in the garbage can. However, think of the mailbox flyer as the "mail" that is not treated like "junk mail". Think about it, you know that you will have pounds of junk mail once you open the mailbox that you will never look at, however a flyer is actually noticed and read over prior to getting tossed. With that said, your flyer will get noticed...not necessarily used, but noticed. The flyers I usually get on my mailbox are for lawn services, tree service or new restaurants. Truth be known, I have either used a service myself or I have remembered the name of the business and passed the information on to friends and family and they used the service. A Flyer...seems pretty elementary, but if you do not have a large marketing budget...try it.
  • Envelopes
Every envelope that carries an invoice or pays a bill that leaves your office should have your website address on it. You should have your business name, address, phone number and web site address on it. This seems like a small idea, but it is cheap marketing for your business.
  • Address Labels
Address Labels go hand in hand with the envelope idea above if you don't have printed envelopes. You can customize a whole stack of address labels on your office printer for pennies.
  • Fax Cover Sheets
Whether you fax 5 times a month or 50 times a day, you should always include your website address and e-mail address on your fax cover sheets.
  • Checks
If you have custom printed checks, include your website address. Once again, these ideas may seem small and inconsequential but the idea here is to brand your business and provide as much info as possible anywhere you can.
  • Voice Mail
How's your voice mail sound on your business phone and your cell phone? Does it go something like this: "Thanks for calling, please leave your name and number and we will call you back"? Change it...the last thing that your potential customer should hear is: "Please visit us on the web at www.yourwebsite.com".
  • T-Shirts & Hats
Personally, I am a baseball cap and t-shirt wearing fanatic. People love T-shirts and Hats and believe you me...they will wear them. Put a few extra bucks in your marketing budget and get your logo and website address added to some T-shirts and Hats. Give 'em away during your next promotion and feel good about it.
  • Promotional Items
I personally love promotional nick knacks! I have a huge collection of magnets, pens, stickers, notepads...you name it I have plenty. Folks love promotional items almost as much as they like t-shirts and hats! I'll give you a personal example: I wanted a promotional item that I could put in an envelope when I mailed out invoices so I went with letter openers. I had letter openers printed up with my company logo, web site address and phone number. I sent hundreds out with my mail and I got more compliments on sending that little trinket out than I did on my core business! I gave one to my accountant years ago and he kept that letter opener on his desk for years. Whether it be a letter opener or a magnet with your logo and website address on it...have some made up and give those items away like candy.
